Agilia

Lafarge offers the Agilia - concrete poured straight from the source. Agilia is a self-compacting concrete, meaning that it has great fluidity, enabling it to effortlessly fill all the corners and areas in the formwork or mold, spreading easily and quickly throughout. Aglilia is a leading edge concrete produced by Lafarge Research and Development

Axosport

Free draining Axosport – fit for all weather Extreme weather is no hindrance to sports played on Axosport and Axosport Multi-Use – specialist asphalts developed by Lafarge Aggregates to provide free draining hard court surfaces. Lafarge has developed both products to provide durable and porous alternatives to conventional sport hardstandings. Demand for Axosport surfaces has been consistent over the last couple of years, but will increase if inclement weather continues to hamper summer sporting activities.

Axotint

Growing demand for surfacings coloured to suit their surroundings and for demarcation has led Lafarge Aggregates to expand its range of high performance coloured asphalts The most conventional material is Axotint. This consists of asphalt pigmented with red iron oxide to give a traditional dark red surface, complemented with pink granite from Lafarge’s Mountsorrel quarry in Leicestershire. Alternatively, a range of colours can be provided – typically green, red or buff yellow – with Axocolour, which uses a clear binder mixed with pigment to produce the desired colour.

Axoflex

The asphalt product has been designed for high traffic speed/high traffic density. · Motorways and trunk roads. · Will also provide a solution for the general urban and rural road network. . It offers the benefits of reducing the demand for primary aggregate consumption by utilising lower quality secondary aggregates.

Axocrete

Axocrete’s grout fills the asphalt’s voids to create a dense material which can withstand heavy loading and high turning forces. The grout used in Axocrete prevents any spilt fuel from coming into contact with the bitumen binder. This combination of characteristics appealed to the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, which operates the Sheffield Transport Interchange, and led to specification of the material for the refurbishment.

Envirosand

As a major producer of construction materials, including recycled and secondary aggregates, Lafarge has used its expertise to create Envirosand, a safe and sustainable alternative to traditionally quarried materials. Derived from locally-sourced glass packaging waste (i.e. bottles and jars) Envirosand is a viable alternative to natural sand and is ideal for a wide variety of building applications such as a bedding sand for paving slabs. Envirosand is produced in accordance with the ‘quality protocol for the production of aggregates from inert waste’ published by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme - Copies available upon request or visit www.wrap.org.uk). The glass packaging waste is processed to high standards to meet 0/4mm grading specification. • offers excellent technical performance, comparable to quarried materials • is clean and safe to handle • is non-toxic & inert (COSHH data sheet available upon request) • has excellent drainage properties • utilises waste glass that would normally be landfilled • contributes towards the UK’s recycling targets • helps preserve the resources of natural quarried materials • lower bulk density means more coverage per tonne

recycled sand

Lafarge Aggregates Ltd is one of the UK's largest producers of natural and recycled aggregates. With in excess of 8 million tonnes of sand & gravel produced each year, the company supplies material to a wide range of construction projects throughout the country. Once the material has been extracted, the land must be restored to its original levels and land use. Land restoration has historically been undertaken with imported inert waste materials. This material, usually arising from construction works, enables the waste to be re-used in a beneficial and sustainable manner. This process accords with the overriding of waste recovery objectives contained in the European Waste Framework Directive 75/442/EEC. In addition to restoring its quarries with inert soils and clays Lafarge Aggregates processes suitable demolition wastes into recycled aggregates. The company has extensive experience in this area and currently operates 35 recycling plants throughout the UK managed by a team of qualified recycling specialists. chippings

Aggregates are used to create concrete and, although usually invisible, provide the structure for many buildings. They have 3 main functions: * support, thanks to their strength. Research into high-performance concrete and bituminous concrete has shown that the strength limits of materials depend, in part, on the aggregates they contain. Aggregates make a vital contribution to the strength of materials. * filling: aggregates make mixtures more compact, facilitating specific applications including drainage, weatherproofing and heat retention. * embellishment, thanks to their aesthetic qualities. Sand gives surface treatments their brightness. Local chippings lend their specific colors to many different types of concrete and concrete products, including tinted and stained concrete, interlocking concrete paving, industrialized concrete slabs and panels, and road paving.

ballast

Lafarge Rail Ballast is a major supplier of Rail Ballast to the rail industry Rail Ballast operations cover four major Rail Ballast quarries running more than 200 Rail Ballast wagons To deliver the rail ballast, lafarge has developed the Rail Ballast self discharge train. Mountsorrel

Europe’s largest granite quarry in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire - operated by Lafarge Aggregates - opened its gates to approximately 4,000 people from the surrounding villages of Mountsorrel, Quorn and Rothley. The event marked the 150-year anniversary of the Mountsorrel Granite Company as well as 30 years of the Buddon Wood project to actively restore former quarry workings. Also joining the quarry’s two-day open event, were the mayor and mayoress of Loughborough, Mr & Mrs Mike Jones and Lady Martin, part of the family that owns the Mountsorrel Granite Company who officially unveiled an anniversary plaque at the start of the celebrations.

Walleys

Lafarge Aggregates has been meticulous in the preparation of the Walleys site, which for many years had provided Etruria Marl for the manufacture of high quality bricks. The Company has constructed a 260m haul road to the landfill site and installed leachate and landfill gas collection equipment in the base of each cell. The 23.5 hectare site provides 4.5 million cubic metres capacity for the incoming materials, which will include C&D, commercial and industrial non-hazardous and stable non-reactive hazardous wastes which cannot be recycled. Walleys landfill has an expected life of 20 - 25 years. Phased restoration during this period will see the site restored and landscaped to a contoured profile in keeping with the surrounding countryside, laid to grassland and planted with locally indigenous trees.

Extensia

EXTENSIA® low shrink concrete EXTENSIA® is a low-shrink design alternative to steel, mesh and fibre reinforcement concrete. Its advanced design boasts many advantages: - saves customers money, time and effort by eliminating the need for steel reinforcement - controlled shrinkage enables saw cuts to be pushed out to 20m x 20m sections - high flexural strength of 6N–mm², allowing reduced thickness of the floor - high surface durability and reduced floor maintenance - the environmental profile of EXTENSIA® is less than that of conventional steel-meshed flooring - ideal for large industrial building and warehouse developments For more details on our Extensia® range call: 0870 336 8294

Chronolia

CHRONOLIATM, THE CONSTRUCTION SITE BOOSTER ChronoliaTM combines two apparently contradictory features requested by customers: a concrete product that can be transported and handled like conventional fluid concrete, and which, once laid, very rapidly develops high mechanical strength. ChronoliaTM responds to these two requirements: whereas between 12 and 20 hours are needed before formwork can be removed with conventional concrete, ChronoliaTM becomes resistant in record time and formwork can be removed just four hours after manufacture. With the same workability as a conventional ready-mix concrete, it can be used on all construction sites, as well as to repair road surfaces and civil engineering structures, which means they can be brought back into service very rapidly. With such a rapid setting time, ChronoliaTM makes it possible to reduce possible disruption caused by construction sites and increase efficiency and productivity. It also means that it is possible to rethink the organization of a building site before work begins, in terms of deadlines, cycle times, the use of equipment and costs.
