Lafarge Aggregates Ltd is one of the UK's largest producers of natural and recycled aggregates. With in excess of 8 million tonnes of sand & gravel produced each year, the company supplies material to a wide range of construction projects throughout the country. Once the material has been extracted, the land must be restored to its original levels and land use. Land restoration has historically been undertaken with imported inert waste materials. This material, usually arising from construction works, enables the waste to be re-used in a beneficial and sustainable manner. This process accords with the overriding of waste recovery objectives contained in the European Waste Framework Directive 75/442/EEC. In addition to restoring its quarries with inert soils and clays Lafarge Aggregates processes suitable demolition wastes into recycled aggregates. The company has extensive experience in this area and currently operates 35 recycling plants throughout the UK managed by a team of qualified recycling specialists.
